CAPE MAY • Captain David Githens created and operated the first back bay ecotour cruise in 1993 called Jersey Cape Nature Excursions. Tours operated on a charter basis . Tours operated from a private dock in Cape May then moved to the Miss Chris Marina as patronage grew. He later helped establish a larger back bay tour boat operation and worked as an onboard naturalist. David then became a naturalist, crew, and captain on the Cape May Whale Watcher offering whale, dolphin, and bird watching trips offshore. He has also continued to captain trips aboard the Skimmer. David also has been a volunteer guide for many organizations such as the Cape May Bird Observatory. He has been a wildlife photo enthusiast with many published photos. He also coproduced three documentary films on black skimmers, horseshoe crabs and shorebirds on Delaware Bay, and the New Jersey Pine Barrens.
Cape May Boat Tours, LLC is bringing over 15 years of experience in Cape May birding, wildlife, and marine mammal ecotour cruises. Trips will highlight birding, ecology of the tidelands, Cape May history, and having fun.. We plan to offer some new types of trips. Look for mini-pelagic half day cruises and returning to the Maurice River for early spring bald eagle cruises. We look forward to welcoming you aboard.
